Nick Aspinwall is a journalist and editor based in Taipei, Taiwan. He is an editor for The News Lens, a Taipei-based online media startup, where he oversees coverage of health and education, environmental issues, arts & culture, and regional politics.

He has also contributed to The Diplomat, SupChina, New Naratif, The Interpreter, News Deeply and Roads and Kingdoms. As a reporter, he covers the environment, labor rights, migration, media, and the nuances of the Asia-Pacific’s dynamic politics and spirituality.

He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts – Amherst with a BA in Journalism. His intrepid travels have brought him to 35 countries, including extensive time venturing around China’s far western mountains, deserts, and far-flung national borders.

When he’s not reporting, he can be found on a diving boat or perhaps stranded deep within a remote mountain range. He speaks conversational Mandarin and has achieved fluency in appreciating the earthly wonder that is Southwest Chinese lajiao.
